Front-End Developer Job Details
The Front-End Developer is a key member of the Digital Experience team and fills a complex role, which includes front-end prototyping and development, testing and management. This includes shared ownership of the centrally deployed ucalgary.ca CSS and related display elements/scripting both as custom elements and reusable components for multiple pages and sites. The Front-End Developer is also tasked with ensuring related code meets user and university visual, brand, accessibility and technical standards. In short, this role writes code that determines how our digital elements look and operate with the intent of setting the campus standard. Backend or Drupal web developers rely on the output of this role to determine the display layer of our standardized or custom coded elements.
This position is required to manage assigned projects effectively with both technical and professional competence.
Front-End Developer Mandatory Skills
-Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a front end web developer and designer in the digital space with a particular focus on organizations with both central and distributed authoring models.
-Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related field of study such as visual communications, web or digital design, graphic design, or a related field.
-Expert knowledge of best practices for digital design and an understanding of the principles of responsive and accessible design.
-Intermediate to advanced technical expertise and experience in mobile-first frameworks with a primary focus on Bootstrap as well as experience with the following tools/technologies: parallax and scroll animations, Modernizr, RequiredJS, AngularJS, AJAX, JSON, SVG.
-Experience with rapid prototyping tools such as Axure, UXpin and agile collaboration systems such as Jira within SCRUM, Agile and waterfall development teams.
-Experience with code storage, versioning and promotion using Github.
-Familiarity with both Mac and PC platforms as well as mobile operating systems such as iOS and Android for platform-testing purposes
-Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities; ability to work autonomously and under pressure, as required
-Demonstrated interest in remaining at the forefront of trends and technologies; willingness to experiment with new ideas and tools
-Strong communications and interpersonal skills are required to work with area team members and to sustain strong relationships with internal clients and external vendors.
